New Botox Competitor to Debut Next Month - Xeomin

This will be similar to Botox and Dysport wrinkle-relaxing injectables. Xeomin, Dysport, and Botox are each composed of similar, yet slightly different formulations of the botulinum toxin type A neurotoxin.
However, just like with Dysport I would be cautious to jump in on the Xeomin wagon. Botox has over 1o years of experience behind it and has proven very safe and effective over the years. However , the approval of the 3rd agent should bring the prices down :-)

New Botox - is it time?

Medicis corporation announced approval of Dysport. This is a new product directly competing with Botox. As a plastic surgeon I sincerely welcome addition of this new product. For years Botox was the only choice for temporary active wrinkle reduction. Healthy competition s always a good thing! However, I am not sure how soon I will feel comfortable recommending this new product to my patients. There is just not enough USA experience. Stay tuned! In the meantime this should help our patients by lowering prices of Botox! 

Beware of counterfeit injectable products

Many physicians have alerted authorities to the dangers of cheaper, unbranded, unapproved cosmetic injectables. Disreputable injectors and counterfeit, imported injectables present the greatest risk to a patient's appearance , and ultimately one's health.  There are professionals who inject substitute botulinum toxin instead of Botox. There are already 68 arrests and 29 convictions of health professionals. Thera are fillers such as liquid silicone that may cause serious health problems.

Economic crisis

Interesting news from the plastic surgery society and media polls: despite bad news about the economy the numbers for the non-invasive procedures are growing and numbers of cosmetic surgery procedures is not declining. People still want to look good and be competetive in a workplace. The non-invasive procedures such as injectable fillers, Botox and lasers have usually a smaller price tag and provide visible results with minimal down time.
