New statistics are in - the list may surprise you...

American Society of Plastic Surgeons published 2008 statistic on plastic surgery procedures. Here it is:

1. Botox (over 4.6 mln served! with no or minimal side effects)

2. Removal of skin moles and lumps

3. Filler injections

4. Chemical peels

5. Laser hair removal (it is popular in both man and women)

6. Microdermabrasion

7. Breast augmentation (over 700 000 larger breasts in the USA this year alone)

8. Liposuction

9. Repair of cuts

10. Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty - over 280k procedures)

This list pretty much follows what I observe in my practice. Non-invasive treatments are on the rise because they are safer and more predictable. At the same time surgeries like breast enhancement went up 64% over last six years. Nose job remains to be very popular procedure although as compared to breast implants this number is split between man and women :-)

AAAHC survey

Our office based surgery center underwent survey ( required every 3 years) by the AAAHC. The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care - also known as AAAHC or the Accreditation Association - is a private, non-profit organization formed in 1979 to assist ambulatory health care organizations improve the quality of care provided to patients. We have been accredited by the AAAHC for over 3 years and it seems that we passed again with all As!

Hand Rejuvenation

Hand Rejuvenation is becoming more and more popular. Somewhat forgotten by the cosmetic surgeons, hands can be a very vivid reminder of someones age. Not anymore. Breast augmentation incision/scar

Interesting news about breast augmentation: Recently published study (Plastic Surgery Journal) confirmed what Dr Turowski has been observing over the years. He always thought that periareolar (below the nipple) incision is the preferable spot for breast implant insertion for breast enhancement with the silicone breasts implants. Not only it is less noticable and more predictable in apearance than inframmary (under the breast) scar but also causes less numbness/sensation loss. Recent study from Vanderbilt University confirmed that under the breast incision caused more numbness and nipple sensation loss than periarealorar incision. Axillary (armpit) incision remains his preferable spot for saline breast augmentation
